When You Discover that a Shed is Your Most Favourite Thing in the Universe

This is ridiculously embarrassing to admit but up until very recently, we’ve been been paying 200ish dollars/month for a POD storage container. We first rented the thing when we began renovating this house and trying to sell our other…we needed it then. Once our house was sold, and we moved into this one, we brought the POD out of storage and parked it in our driveway…and it sat there for a year. At one point, we emptied everything and got ready to finally cart the thing away but then the One Room Challenge rolled around and I decided I needed to renovate the basement. So then, all that we had literally just unpacked, got loaded back into the POD.

Nightmare.

I’m sure my neighbours legit hated us. POD’s are not pretty. Not at all.

I’m not sure why a permanent storage solution hadn’t occurred to use earlier but when the lightbulb finally went off, when went an bought ourselves a backyard shed and…we finally got to say goodbye to Mr POD…

At 10×10, the shed comfortably holds all of our extra stuff. The furniture that I like but that doesn’t fit in this house, the extra backyard toys, the boxes we’ll probably never unpack, lawn equipment etc. etc.

We purchased the shed in a raw unfinished form and selected the model we thought best matched our house in terms of shape and roofline etc.

And then went about painting the little pretty to match our house. We went to our local Canadian Tire and picked out the perfect crisp white from their Premier Infinity Exterior line…in a shade called Polar Bear.

And after a two coats, this was our little shed…

We’re still playing with the flower situation to see what colour we prefer…

But regardless, she’s a pretty little shed that fits in so well with our house…and holds EVERYTHING!

After finishing off the shed, we also decided to build a pergola over our dining area. Our contractor Andrew Burke put the baby up in a couple of hours and then painted it in the same Premier Infinity colour…

We couldn’t be happier with how it’s all come together. Having this storage shed to hold all the stuff that doesn’t fit in the house is pure and total Bliss. And the paint has made it all so perfectly blend with the house. Happy days!

My Master Makeover- Crane and Canopy

I was so excited when amazing bedding company, Crane and Canopy invited me to take part in a little makeover of sorts.

For the challenge, they asked me to select a duvet set of my choice so that I could then style my bed using their beautiful linens as a foundation.

As you know, I’ve been giving my master a face lift of sorts that centers around a very simple black, white and grey palate…I might be adding in a small hit of colour down the road, but for now that’s what it is….so, when I went to the Crane and Canopy site to select my bedding, the Linden Gray Border set was an obvious choice…

The 400 thread count cotton sateen cover and shams are so beautifully tailored and add have made my bed infinitely more sophisticated than it was before…

{sidenote…you might have noticed that the artwork on the left side by Nicole Cohen is upside down…my framer put the hanging wire on incorrectly so I need to have it fixed}

And to finish it all off, I’m thinking I might need to order me up some of Crane and Canopy’s Black Scalloped Embroidered sheets….in black…

Love, love it all.

And speaking of such affections, I also have to give a massive thanks to Alexandra Foster for sending me those to die for modern circles pillows…

They’re hand made out of Italian silk and just about the prettiest pillows I ever did see.

I’m planning on using a bunch of her beautiful selections in a few upcoming projects so stay tuned for that.

And on the topic of what’s coming up…my daughter also got to choose  some gorgeous Crane and Canopy wares so a little reveal of her newly dressed bed will be coming up very soon.

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

My Master Makeover- IKEA Quick & Easy

I’m sooooo excited to share with you the beginnings of what I hope will finally (after 8 years of living in this house,) be a completed master bedroom.

Recently, the fabulous folks over at IKEA challenged me and some other bloggers to transform a space using mostly textiles, as part of their Quick and Easy textile campaign.

As many of you know from seeing the reveal of Scarlett’s room

christine dovey pine girls room 9 pom pom curtains gold hygge and west floral wallpaper

…I have LONG been a fan of using IKEA curtain panels for my drapery projects.

In case you didn’t know this trick, buying IKEA  panels is a super fantastic way to get custom curtains for less…in fact, it’s far cheaper than even starting from scratch/buying the fabric etc.  Essentially, you purhcase the panels and then have a seamstress (or yourself if you’re handy like that,) cut off the top, add pleats, attach a liner, sew the panels together and finish off with a nice large hem.  As with Scarlett’s, you can then do fun things like attach ball fringe or if you happen to know someone amazingly talented like my friend Hollie Cooper, you can actually have the fabric itself painted so that it ends up looking like my daughter’s curtains…

…OR like my brand spanking new master bedroom ones!!!

Before I show you what these gems look like in the room, I really wish I could post some before shots but I honestly don’t have a single one because my master was THAT BAD.

It’s the one room in my house that has literally received zero love since we moved in and the fact that it’s now almost actually pretty, is making me so infinitely happy.

Anyhoo…back to the reveal.

For the challenge, I was given $350 to spend and this is what I purchased:

1. 4 packages of IKEA Lenda curtain panels…I chose these because they came in 108″ length. My ceilings on the second floor are only 8′ but I needed enough length to be able to cut the top tabs off and do a nice big hem at the bottom so these were the winners. Each package was $39.99 CDN.

2. 2 king sized pillows…we’ve had one pair of king sizers on my bed foreves but were in desperate need of another pair so this was a no brainer.  I bought the Gosa Pinje because I’m actually not a fan of real feathers and these are designed for side sleepers like moi so perfect…they were each $24.99.

3.  A set of king sheets in their almost highest thread count- I would have bought the highest ones but they were all sold out…I’m super duper delighted to have a nice soft set of white sheets that the baby dude hasn’t been able to wreck yet. These were $39.99

4.  A pair of bedside table lamps…I decided on the Tisdag because I wanted white and simple…sort of sculptural if you will.  These were my big ticket item at $69.99 each.

So…with all that in my shopping cart, I brought it all home, with the exception of the curtain panels that I dropped off at my friend’s/fabric painting genius’ house.

And after just a few days, my IKEA curtains came back all painted up and sewn together…and when I hung them, alongside my new lamps and my newly dressed bed, this is what happened to my once very sad bedroom…

When it comes to making big transformations with some simple little changes, a little IKEA goes a long way…and of course, some personaliztion/experimentation in the mix, just increases the end result.

To see more ‘quick and easy’ transformations, make sure to visit IKEA’s campaign website and also, follow along on Twitter with hashtag #IKEAMakeover.

And as for my bedroom, I still have a few more things to throw in to really finish it off.

I’m very much hoping to have this Ashley Woodson Bailey piece hung above my bed…

wihtout wax ashley woodson bailey

…and a rug…I need a rug.

I’ll be back with a full reveal when it’s all said and done.

In the meantime though, check back very soon for yet another post about this room…I want to tell you all about the pretty Crane and Canopy bedding, those fabulous silk pillows and the art of course:)

Blogger Ladies Whose Work is Rocking My Casbah This Week #3…and My Cards

There’s some work floating around the webs that just HAS to be shared.

1. I’ll start things off on a personal note….my graphic designer/brand maker extraordinaire Erika Brechtel proved her genius, thanks to delivery of these babies…

Needless to say, I’m pseudo obsessed and am going to be slutting them around to whoever will take one:)

Erika Brechtel Brand Stylist = amazing.  Czar Press Print Shop= amazing.

(Also, a huge thanks to Citizen Atelier for the referral to the print shop!)

2. Numero uno leads me to dos…

When I opened up my box of cards, there was one of someone else’s included…the printer wanted to show me an edge option so sent it along…imagine my great happiness when I looked at the beautiful card belonging to J. Marx Atelier and then linked over to her stunning portfolio to find a whole lot of this kind of thing…

That office makes me want a small room with wall to wall bookcases and paneling everywhere in a large and in charge way.

4. And finally, I know you all were blown out of the water and all the way to Egypt with the reveal of Fieldstone Hill’s nursery…I mean stop it with this layered, eclectic prettiness…

5. And finally, full circle and back to moi with this post. I rocked my own world by FINALLY making some progress on my master bedroom.

I’ve literally never shown pictures of this part of my house before becuase honestly, our bedroom has always been a total and complete tip…my good friend Hollie can attest to this…she’s seen the horror in person.

Anyhoo…a few things have got my ass in gear on this front, which I’ll tell you more about later…but for now, here’s a sneaky peeky of what I’ve accomplished in the past little bit, in the form of de-cluttering, painting, art situating and bed fluffing…

There’s lots more to get done but it’s a start;))))

And that my friends, is some good blogging business for this week.

Happy almost weekend…I’m off to the Christie Antique Show tomorrow and literally can. not. wait.  Be sure to follow along my Insta feed for the many many ‘god I want to buy this’ moments.

Holiday Reveals- Upstairs Bathroom

Hello.
I was busy yesterday with a Steven and Chris shoot so my apologies for the lack of post.
For today, I thought I’d show you a space in my house…
Untitled #78
…that doesn’t get much attention…i.e. the upstairs bathroom.
It’s one of those rooms that we made over on the cheap but is never really done as it were.  In my ideal world, I’d rip out the tub fitter like bath, swap the builder grade vanity for something infinitely more custom, and replace the lighting with something much more exciting.
Unfortunately, none of that is going to happen…now or maybe ever.
So in the meantime, I decided to spruce it up a bit by taking all the art that’s currently for sale in my shop, and slapping it up on the walls…
My plan is to cover every inch of wall space and just keep rotating things out as they sell and are made etc.
Happy days.
Also, on the art page, I’ve been experimenting with this new process that sort of lacquers my gesso board paintings…I’ve only got one done so far but am about to embark on doing many of these guys.
For now, here’s ‘midnight carousel
Me liking the gloss.
And that’s all for today…short and sweet as it were.

Holiday Decorating, Kids and Some New Paintings

Happy new week.
Can you effing believe Christmas is only 9 days away???
I sure as hell can’t.
Thanks to earpocolypse, I have count them…two gifts purchased.
Yup…two.
We’re definitely doing a scaled down Christmas this year but even with the idea of buying less, I still have a lot of shopping to do.
Thankfully, a giant snowfall over the weekend gave me some time to get the decorating done.
I’m not sure if I mentioned but somehow in the course of basement renovations, our rather large stash of holiday decorations went gonzo.
I spent the better part of 5 hours tearing the house, garage and POD apart to absolutely no avail.
And because budget is tight this year, I really couldn’t run out and buy a whole bunch of new stuff.
So, I got a little crafty and did the place up with live greens, ribbon, candles, gold chandelier chain and pine cones.
And now, it’s looking like this around here…
I’m pretty pleased with it actually.
I have a little more to do in the hallway and basement so will show you some pics of that all finished later in the week.
What else?
I took the kids out yesterday to give hubster some much deserved quite time…he pretty much ran the roust while my ears were ruining my life so he was definitely deserving of a little aloneness as it were.
As part of our afternoon out, Mac got his locks cut off a la a little undercut action…
Jasper enjoyed watching the fun from the comfort of his sweet ride…

…while Scarlett, on the other hand, was too engrossed in US magazine to pay much attention…
Thankfully, she did tear herself away long enough to give her brother an approving hug apres magazine…
And thankfully, Mac loves his new do…

I’m pretty in love with it myself- so fun to actually be able to see his face sans hair mop;)
And while on the topic of my sweet brood, my littlest man is 9 months old today…
…which is so awesome and so sad all at once.
I love this age…he’s moving and trying to talk and cuddly and awesome…BUT…the time is slipping by so damn fast…I just know I’m going to blink and he’ll be in kindergarten and then it’s sayonara…University before you know it.
Moving on from the mommy mush….
I’ve added a few new paintings to the shop

20% off until the end of the month friends.
And finally, it’s your last day to enter the Vivian & Beverly giveaway…draw happens tomorrow so get those entries in!
