The Business of Design – New Projects

I haven’t done a work update lately so I thought why not.

Here are some boards I’ve done for some peeps.

First up, an e-design of a nursery, guest, master bedroom…these were the first boards…

And then after some revisions, this is where things ended up…

Next, for #projectchapelhill, we’ve put this table into custom production…

And my clients just nabbed this set of vintage Louis chairs to go with…

…they’ll be made over in black leather.

As for the full design, I put together this little board…

…and yes, I’m clearly on a sheers and moulding binge lol.

My clients have asked for a little less boldness re: art and colour, so I’ve put this revision together…

…and I’m hoping they love. If not, and just for good measure, I also threw in a KW rug option…

Next, I’ve got a brand new project called Project Birchcroft.  With this home, I’ve been asked to makeover a few spaces and put the finishing touches on others.

To start, I’ll be giving the piano room a facelift…with a mandate to make it an edgy showstopper of a room.

Here’s the before shots on that one…

And my plan…

Super excited to see this one come to life.

And I believe that’s all for today. I’ve got a super exciting project announcement to share in the next few days so stay tuned.yay for that!

And speaking of good news…a brand spanking new series will be starting tomorrow called Haute Spots so stay tuned:)))

Trying My Hat at Pottery Design and Blog Podium

You know when they say that blogging really opens up doors you didn’t even really know existed before? Well…that’s happened to me a few times.  Most recently, I got the chance to do something I really never thought would be in the wheelhouse as it were.  As part as an initiative for this fall’s Blog Podium, I was asked to put my big girl panties on and try my hand at pottery design of all things…me…drawing and dreaming up vases and such.

Let me explain.

This fall’s Blog Podium will be featuring a local organization called Sistering whose mandate it is to serve the marginalized, homeless and low income woman of Toronto.  “Sistering  is an organization that offers practical and emotional support to women through programs which enable them to take greater control over their lives. Guided by the principles of anti-racism and anti-oppression, Sistering works to change social conditions, which endanger women’s welfare.”

One of Sistering’s initiatives is Inspirations Studio

…an amazing place that helps  provide woman develop potting and ceramic skills…

And it was with them, that I took my first spin at designing pottery.

Let me explain.

Earlier this spring Jordana of White Cabana and I were asked to design some pottery pieces that Inspriations Studio could produce and then auction off at Blog Podium, with all proceeds going back to Sistering.  After meeting at the studio and discussing possibilities/ideas, I came up with a pottery moodboard…

…drew them up and fired them off to the studio…

And then shortly thereafter, I got a sneak peeks of my designs…

The finished pieces will be available for purchase tomorrow at Blog Podium and I’m soooo excited.

And speaking of BP, I’ll be there and along with seeing my creations in person for the first time, will be sitting down with my very talented friend Sarah Gunn to do a little round-table discussion

…on the ‘Entrepreneurship of Blogging’ so if you want to know how the two of us ladies turned this blogging gig into a business, we’d love to have you at our table:)

Hope to see many of you lovelies tomorrow!!!!

Style at Home- My Basement Reveal

I’m so excited to share with you my latest feature in Style at Home magazine.

As many of you know, we renovated our basement last year, just in time for the birth of our little Jasper.  The space was gutted and re-built in hopes of creating: some much needed new space for a TV/family/play room; a new bedroom for our eldest daughter Natasha; a full bathroom since we don’t have a powder room on the mainfloor; a functioning laundry area; and most importantly, STORAGE.

With the help of my amazing team (wjb designs, Allen Dawson, Peter Fejzaj,) I was able to create a space that has truly transformed the functionality of our home.  And to see the whole thing featured so beautifully in Style at Home ‘s October 2014 issue…

…is more than just a little icing on the cake…it’s a total unicorns are real moment for yours truly.

REVEAL – Project Nursery Sweetness

I’m so so excited to show you the reveal of a nursery I did via e-design for a client in New York whose little girl is due any day now:)))

Called #projectnurserysweetness, this space was one of three I helped finish off for an amazing client who was just so so fun to work with.

If you missed the intro post, here’s a look again at the before shots of the space we were working with…

And here my friends are the afters…

I’m thrilled.  It’s sweet and charming and eclectic and chalk full of little girl whimsy.

A quick source list of the most important bits:

1. Rocker- vintage from House of Honey on 1st Dibs

2. Bedding- Biscuit Home Goods

3. Hand made doll- Gaiia Kim Dolls

4. Wallpaper- Domesticate

5. Love sign- Black Rooster Decor

6. Floral artwork- Lulie Wallace for Anthropolgie

7. Rug- ebay

And PS…little girl rooms are my FAVOURITE!

Project Greenbay – the Living Room Design

After sharing the fabric schemes on for #projectgreenbay, I thought it might be fun to go through my plans room by room…say one/week sort of thing.

And to start, why not begin with the largest/most influential of spaces…the living room.

Here again is our fabric story for the room…

And a peak of the space itself…

Since these shots were taken, we painted out the fireplace in black and hung a pair of Flemish chandeliers that were specked before I came on the scene for the kitchen…I suggested moving them in here pretty early on so that we’d end up with this sort of ‘look’…

windsor smith living room

I’ve long been in love with this Windsor Smith space so it’s definitely serving as inspiration.

As for our room, as you saw from the fabric post, all is really stemming from Schumacher’s Hollyhock…

Schumacher Charcoal Rose

We’ll use this fabric to make curtain panels to frame out the french doors and big main bow window that line the main long wall that leads out to the backyard.

In addition, I’d love to bring in this Pierre Frey Vicose/Cotton blend called Portofino..

pierre frey portofino

….and use it to re-upholster our vintage sofa…

The Schmacher Pretwick wool satin in blush…

schumacher prestwick

…will be used for our thin framed brass chairs…

lawson fenning brass chairs

The tiger print will come in as pillows from 219 and the Gretchen Bellinger burgundy velvet (which is PS, my new most favourite velvet line) will be used for a pair of chairs in the bar area…

gretchen bellinger velvet

And lest not we forget the black faux leather…that will be taken care of thanks to this guy…

carved settee

All of which will mush together with some fabulous art and additional furniture to make this sort of business come to life…

I hope:)))

Stay tuned for progress shots and purchases etc.

Project Greenbay – In the Flesh

As many of you might have heard, I made the trek down to Chicago to visit Project Greenbay in the flesh.

Meeting my clients in person and getting to see this stunner of a home was just so incredible….it’s certainly one thing to see a space in photos but being able to stand in it and see the beginnings of your vision come to life…well…it was pretty special to say the least.

Stupidly, I only had my phone with me to take photos with and I posted most of them on Instagram.

For the next few days, I thought I’d show you what I’ve come up with in terms of a fabric story for each room, using the photos I took while there, along with some product ones etc.

Here’s what I’ve sorted out as of today…

I still have the playroom and other little girl’s room to sort out but I’m so happy with what’s shaping up so far.

Once we’ve nailed down specifics on each of these, the furniture ordering will begin…and just as a teaser on that front, this incredible vintage sofa from 219 is happening in the living room.. in burgundy velvet….

And good lord…I can’t even wait to see that happen.

More to come.
