Art Fair Fridays – Joseph Heidecker

And just like that, it’s my favourite day of the week again, because it’s the one that Heirloom & Knot and I get to share with you the latest instalment in our ongoing Art Fair Fridays series, where we bring you weekly design inspiration and exclusive interviews with the talented artists that inspire our creativity on a daily basis.

Today, we’re so happy to introduce Joseph Heidecker to you. His works are thought provoking and twist the ordinary into the extraordinary. Using found materials and natural inspirations, Heidecker transforms simple things into works with a whimsical edge, that push the boundary of the everyday, and make fantasy come to life.

How long would you say you have been a professional artist and what has lead you to this point in your career?
I have been a professional artist for over 20 years. I am  intrigued by lifes’ daily visual stimulation which keeps me in a creative mode.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received about your art ?
Best advice I  received was to never stop the creative process and keep working.

How would you describe your creative process?
I would say Joseph Campbells’ writings on Mythology and Cindy Shermans’ work on identity are 2 mediums which have greatly influenced my creative process, those being the ideas about  where we all have  all originated from and also how we have socialize and present ourselves to the world.

What is your favourite medium to work in?
I enjoy finding miscellaneous objects, string, beads in flea markets and thrift shops.

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?
Being in Cindy Shermans personal collection and featured in her home in Architects Digest and sponsored by Design Miami for my FotoFurniture Project.

How would you describe your signature style?
I strive to create a style that is unique and compelling to view.

Where do you find your greatest creative inspiration?
I always find inspiration from the natural world.

What do you think sets your work apart from other artists?
I try to make work that questions the ordinary and imagine the extraordinary.

…….

I love art that’s irreverent and un-apologetic…art that questions the every-day and forces the viewer to see things in a different way.  Heidecker’s work does just that…it’s a whacky, raw and infinitely compelling.

Here are my top 5…

The black and white lady and gold bust are particularly perfect in my humble opinion…love x very much.
